TCFL 16 // Episode 3 Recap

Merry Christmas from my childhood home on Long Island, New York. This weeks' recap is being written next to Mrs. Commish (as usual) but also the younger brothers and TCFL rookies, Renato and Matt. I hope you all had a wonderful holiday. For anyone wondering, our Christmas dinner consisted of a combination of Filipino, Italian, and Indian food. If anyone had anything interesting/awesome for their Holiday meal(s), please do share in the comments. On to Episode 3...

EPISODE RECAP:
  • A White Elephant / Yankee Swap is definitely fun to be in... a little boring to watch.
  • Bourbon consumed for Episode 3: Jim Beam Red Stag. Honestly, I'm just surprised there was any sort of bourbon in my parents' house.
  • David is the thirstiest contestant I can remember. It's one thing to crush on Gail. But crushing on Blais is a bit much.
  • With that said, I'm so happy to see my girl Brooke. To me, she and Voltaggio are #1 and #2 in some order with Izard close behind.
  • It's interesting that Padma (and the judges) haven't been travelling station to station for Quickfire judging like they have in the past and instead have the Chefs bring dishes up in batches.
  • The reaction that the Chefs have when Ripert walks in is so endearing and genuine. They all seem so legitimately pumped to see him. On top of that, Ripert is a thoughtful and honest judge and should be around a lot more.
  • Padma shouldn't have to ring the doorbell.
  • Springing an Elimination Challenge on them that late (midnight) is so brutal. It's a lot of fun that after all these years, dessert on Top Chef is still "a thing".

FAMILY MUSINGS:
Renato on Eddie: "He looks like he gets mad then microwaves his hamster. Serial killer."
Mrs. Commish on Adrienne: "She looks like she has Ursula coming out of her ears."
Matt, anytime Michelle was on-screen: "Who?!"

FANTASY RECAP:
  • Nini continues her early-season run and is the top scorer, so far. Can she carry this through for a whole season or is she peaking way too early?
  • Eric (chosen by 21 teams, -3 points scored), Justin (19 teams, -5 points) and Pablo (20 teams, -8 points) are absolutely destroying their teams right now.
  • Adrienne holds on to the top spot in the rankings for the 2nd consecutive week, but will it last? She's already had two Chefs lose in LCK and has a 3rd in the sudden death competition already.
  • A surprise for current Mr. Irrelevant is Season 15 Champion Eric, who unfortunately has all three of Eric, Justin, and Pablo on his team.

Lastly, a request: Mrs. Commish and I are taking advantage of my mom being on vacation and wanting to watch Mini Commish by going on a mini trip to... Louisville! Obviously, Top Chef is no longer filming but we thought it'd be fun to check everything out while it's fresh on our TV. If anyone has ever been and has any recommendations for us, please hit the comments. We already have reservations for 610 Magnolia, flagship of Season 9 Chef Ed Lee.
