TCFL 16 // Visit to Louisville

Happy New Year, TCFL!

Hope you all had a great holiday season. Much like most of you, I'm back in the office trying to remember how to competently do my job while also trying to figure out how to lose all the holiday weight I've gained.

Quick update on League matters: I'm not going to recap Episode 4 before tonight. I want to treat all of Restaurant Wars as one post because, to be honest, if I were to start writing about it now, it would all be negative. Scoring is updated through Episode 4 and can be found here as always.

In the meantime, here are some pictures from my and Mrs. Commish's three-day jaunt through Louisville. Enjoy tonight's episode and be back next week!

Our first meal off the plane was at a Burger / Mussel / Bourbon place a few blocks from our hotel. The burgers were delicious and they had a nice selection of bourbon including some more rare/expensive offerings. Or so we thought. After talking to the bartender, I ordered a pour of Van Winkle Special Reserve 12 Year for a not unreasonable $30.00. After hanging out some more and Mrs. Commish bonding with our bartender over their mutual love of Real Housewives, we get the check and the Van Winkle was graciously left off the bill. Thanks Bravo and Zack the bartender! Southern hospitality!

We stayed at the Galt House Hotel downtown. Fishies live in the bar.

Louisville has some great murals/signage/art all around town.

These could be found everywhere downtown. If these were in NY or DC, most would definitely be vandalized.

Couldn't leave Louisville without adding to the growler collection.

The Top-Chef-iest thing we did while there was dine at 610 Magnolia, Ed Lee's place. We did the 6-course tasting menu (plus some extras) and it was fantastic.

Got a little aggressive with the mains.

Same here.

I couldn't squat low enough to get the entire thing in frame (that's what she said).

Nerd.

Went to a bar a little further away from downtown where their entire game room was free. Top Golf, Pop-a-Shot, Shuffleboard, Cornhole, Darts, Nintendo Switch, and old school cabinets like NBA Jam, Mortal Kombat, Ninja Turtles, X-Men, and The Simpsons all free. Mrs. Commish and I decided to rescue Maggie and take down Mr. Burns. I calculated it out and figured if we were paying a quarter per life, it would have taken us $20.00 each to finish the game.

The super religious beer bar was... interesting.

Highly recommend the Muhammad Ali Center & Museum. Lots to look at, including full recordings of some of his best fights.

On our last day, we hit the distillery tours. We did Old Forester downtown and the old Stizel-Weller Distillery (former home of Old Fitzgerald & Pappy Van Winkle, among others, and now occupied by Bulleit and Diageo) a little further away from town. Both were great and totally worth the admission.

One of our last stops was to try the iconic "Hot Brown" at the Brown Hotel downtown. Mrs. Commish's verdict: "Needs hot sauce."
