TCFL 17 All-Stars // Episode 4 Recap

Hey-Hey TCFL!

Almost another week in the books. I hope everyone is enjoying the Show and the Recaps so far this season. I appreciate hearing from you guys, whether it's to talk about something happening within the show, or complaining about your team. As always, if you have any feedback, anything you'd like me to write about, or corrections to the Scoreboard, let me know either via email, or through the comments section below. Let's get to Episode 4...

Episode Recap:
  • Mrs. Commish's Shade of the Week, on "Padma's Angels": "This is gonna get really old, really fast. Bringing down the curve for all of us."
  • They had to get to a $250,000 grand prize somehow, right? Lots of shots of BMW X7s and a Trolls World Tour mini-trailer during a Quickfire.
  • Trolls has not taken hold in this household yet. We are still mostly about Frozen, and various other Disney princesses.
  • I love Kelly Clarkson. She is the best Idol and no one is close (Carrie Underwood is hotter, not better).
  • Since U Been Gone is an unofficial lesbian anthem? Had no idea. Whenever I hear this song now, this is what I think of:

  • As a very proud #GirlDad, I was about to, for the first time, appreciate and relate to Malarkey. When talking about winning the Quickfire and the prize of going to the Trolls World Tour premiere: "She would just think I'm the coolest guy in the world." Then he kept talking: "Oh wait, she already does think I'm the coolest guy in the world." So much for that.
  • Is this the worst looking dish that's ever been presented on Top Chef?
  • If you've ever slummed it with any of the other cooking competition shows out there, you know that you need to stay away from the ice cream machine. (For the record, the only other shows I put on the same level as Top Chef are the first iteration of Iron Chef America, and the original Iron Chef Japan.)
  • I don't believe that Trolls World Tour was able to have a traditional red carpet premiere before everything happened, so Gregory wasn't able to take Nini on their date, but the movie does have the distinction of being the first major title to make its debut digitally.
  • How Chef-ing has changed over the last several years: An Elimination Challenge forcing everyone to cook vegetarian just isn't that big of a deal anymore, and it's a good thing.
  • The Judges' seats-with-a-view was a fun wrinkle. Seats with full view of the kitchen are always my personal favorite when Mrs. Commish and I go out.
  • It feels like more often than not, Lee Anne can't finish (or needs help) plating. With that said, I actually don't care/mind about Malarkey "throwing her under the bus". Finish your own shit yourself and you won't have to worry about it.
  • I was fine with any of the three (Malarkey, Lee Anne, or Lisa) going home.
  • "'Pack your knives and go' are words I've never actually heard before." is a cool thing for Lisa to say, but it doesn't carry much weight with me.
  • Quick check-in on Last Chance Kitchen (it's required watching at this point):
    • LCK Tom continues to be much cooler than Regular Tom. He just has more room to cook in LCK, DAD JOKE-Y PUN INTENDED.
    • Angelo and Jamie are the unlikely peanut gallery commenting duo that I didn't think I needed in my life.
Scoring Recap:
  • That's two in a row for Melissa. She's a beast and is tied for the lead with Kevin at +20 points overall.
  • Is Gregory awake after a two episode lull? He won the Quickfire (+5) and was on the winning team for Elimination (+5) this week.
  • Stephanie, Nini, and Voltaggio all had tough episodes, each going -5 for the week.
  • "The Foursome" has collectively moved into first place. Since we have identical teams for the first time in our short history, I've added the Tiebreaker answers to the Scoreboard.
  • It's a tale of two former champs: EY's Mise en (Shelter in) Place, Season 15 champion, is part of The Foursome and is tied in first. Meanwhile, DJ, Season 14 champion is down in 32nd. FWIW, our Season 16 champion decided not to participate this year...
  • Stephanie is easily the worst performing Chef so far, with -11 points overall. Surprisingly, she hasn't been a detriment to some teams like Jon W. and Anne G. who are in the Top 10 in spite of her.

Enjoy Episode 5 and see you next week!
