GBBOFL 11 // Episode 3 Recap

Hello GBBOFL! It's Bread Week and that means congratulations to The Soggy Bottom, Mary's Berry, and GBBYO for getting the first Tiebreaker question right. A lot of movement in the Scoreboard this week, so let's get to it:

  • As always, the Scoreboard can be found HERE.
  • Old Head Gripe of the Week: The Judges shouldn't be involved in the hosts' little skits to start the show.
  • If I got buttermilk in my ear like Marc did, I'd demand that production stop so that I could take a shower.
  • British Slang of the Week: "It's very twee." -- Laura
  • It's very sweet that Linda is using Mak's honey this week.
  • Inexplicably, Linda (1st) and Marc (2nd), the two Bakers not chosen by any of our teams, finished at the top of this week's Technical.
  • Hollywood Handshake Count: 2. Hermine gets one this week, launching her to 3rd Baker overall with 21 (unadjusted) points.
  • Despite a very quiet week, Dave is still 1st Baker overall with 23 (unadjusted) points.
  • Paul and Bake Off caught a lot of heat this week because of the rainbow bagels. You can read about it HERE. It was a weird definitive proclamation by Paul, and wasn't at all necessary. For the record, The Commish house is a house of allies and to us the rainbow flag is for the LGBTQ+ community.
  • How can they possibly taste test these bagels without cream cheese?
  • Rowan finishes his stint with last in the Technical two weeks in a row, rewarding the Teams who chose him with a -3 (unadjusted) for the Series. He's just the latest in a long line of old guys who are technically proficient and experienced, but don't want to listen to briefs and/or want to do things their way and end up lasting a few episodes before the Judges get fed up with it.
  • Congrats to Un-Chosen Marc on winning Star Baker this week. He's now 2nd Baker overall with 22 (unadjusted) points.
  • I didn't realize that they could have their family in the Bakeoff Bubble with them. Upon further Googling, it sounds like their Bubble was lovely. You could even bring your dog!
  • It's been three episodes and it doesn't feel like there is a frontrunner or even a Tier 1 of bakers, so far. This has been evidenced by chosen-by-all Peter being tied for the least amount of points (nine) among active Bakers.
  • The Losers hold on to first place for a 2nd consecutive week while teams confident in Hermine like The Soggy Bottom, Paullywood, and Paul Hollywood’s Firm Gray Stubble all made jumps up the Board.
  • Special shout-out to my Brother (I'm Gonna Crumb) who I'm pretty sure only plays in these Leagues so he can make inappropriate team names.
Until next week!
