TCFL 16 // Episode 7 Recap

Hello Food Friends,

Two things Episode 7 accomplished: First, it was a bit of a palate cleanser (PUN INTENDED) in terms of us getting a more "normal" episode, without all the craziness of Restaurant Wars, Last Chance Kitchen, etc. Second, it was our yearly (and sometimes twice yearly) episode of Tom being super disappointed in the chefs. Tom's always struck me as one of those people where you are better off if he's mad at you. It feels worse when he is disappointed. On to stray thoughts:
  • It's funny how the current season chefs always hate any returning chefs/outsiders. It creates natural drama and soundbites, so we can assume that Bravo is gonna keep doing it one way or another.
  • "I'm gonna kiss the shit out of you when I get home, buddy." -- Eddie
The only reason why I'm bringing this quote up is because Mini Commish has "shit" in her own vocabulary (much to the dismay of Mrs. Commish). Also, when she says "cookies" it sounds more like "titties." My own little potty mouth.
  • Was the one piece of Lena Waithe work Eric was allowed to mention really Ready Player One? Definitely not my first choice.
  • I assumed the Hot Brown would eventually make it onto a Quickfire. For Mrs. Commish's thoughts on the Hot Brown (we did have the real deal at the Brown Hotel like the chefs did), check out the recap of our trip to Louisville.
  • Not putting your food on the plate is so confusing to me. Just cheat/try to get it on there! At the very least, try to force Bravo to force Padma to watch a shot clock replay with slow motion and the whole deal.
  • This reminds me: You know what hasn't happened yet this season that I hope never comes back? Sudden Death Quickfires.
  • The "Food Fact" chyrons continue to be awesome, especially this week when they included highlighted cow diagrams:
  • I again felt bad and inadequate as your Commish that I did not have any recollection of Annie, the host/owner of the restaurant where they had the Elimination this week and supposed contestant of Season 14. Then I looked it up. She was eliminated in the first episode and arguably got more screen time this week than she did in her season.
  • Dario is a trip. But separate from that, I loved his opinions and insight during the tasting. It's a shame that the language barrier probably reduced what we would have otherwise normally seen or heard from him.
  • Brandon's tartare must have been okra-level slimy, because I really thought that Sara should have gone home.
Fantasy Recap:
  • As always, updated scoring can be found here.
  • Justin is finally rewarding his believers with a Quickfire win and Elimination top performer finish for a very nice +10 for the week.
  • Sara and Brian both managed a -5 for the week (bottom in both challenges) without being eliminated.
  • Eddie is now tied with Nini at +24 for the season.
  • Big shakeup in the standings as Kelly M. overtakes Amilcar for the top spot.
  • Please check your individual scores/chefs/etc. A player pointed out a mistake I made recently and it was corrected right away. Unfortunately, neither I nor the sheet are perfect.
